I have always loved to create things. I loved to sew and do any type of project with textiles. To see a room full of fabric or yarn makes my heart skip a beat!

I guess my love for fabric and yarn is in my DNA.  I have been told I got my love for sewing from my maternal Grandmother. When I was little I would sit at her feet as she sewed. I 'helped' her push the peddle of her treadle sewing machine. It was awesome. Grandma's sewing was perfection. Each stitch was pure perfection. My sewing isn't as perfect as Grandma's was and it never will be. It's ok. My thought is that finished is better than perfect.

I was blessed to have been able to spend a lot of time with my paternal and maternal Grandmothers while I was growing up. They couldn't have been more different women but both have taught me so many things.  What I treasure most is that they invested their time in me. They made the time to work with me and talk with me about things that were going on in my life. I will always treasure my short time with these remarkable women.

My love for gardening and growing flowers I learned from my paternal Grandmother. We would spend a whole day digging and planting flowers and vegetables. These hexie flowers remind me of  the the African Violets Grandma always had growing in her house. I got my love of flowers from her.

I've been working on a project that is very dear to my heart and reminds me of both of my amazing Grandmothers. It is an English Paper Pieced quilt called Grandmother's Garden. It is hand sewn hexagons into flower shapes. I can't tell you how many hours I have cutting the fabric out and piecing the flowers. But it is a labor of love so the hours don't matter. My stitches aren't as neat as Grandma's would have been. But again, that's ok.

Here is the top so far.

Here is the back. Messy but wonderful!

I'm not sure how big I'm going to make it. I might stop when it is a twin size. But we'll see. I always go bigger than I plan so who knows!

I love the scrappy-ness of it. Both of my Grandmothers worked very hard and did without to provide for their families. They made the best of life with what they had. I guess that might be where I get my love for scrappy quilts and economizing.

I'm so thankful I had these two amazing women in my life. They help to mold and shape me into the person I am today. Thank you Grandma Aggas and Grandma Kelly!
