Welcome!

HI! Welcome to Running Like Phoebe. I know it is not a typical blog name. Hopefully, this won't be a typical blog!

I decided to create a blog to reach out to other people who Run Like Phoebe. I got the idea from watching the TV series Friends. Last winter my husband and I decided to watch all the episodes of Friends from beginning to end. It took us 3 months to watch them all. It  got us through a cold and miserable winter.  The episode The One Where Phoebe Runs (season 6 episode 7) came on. Phoebe's running style was not a typical style nor was her form like anyone else. She ran with wild abandon. Her arms were flailing and her legs seemed to be going in different directions at the same time. Rachel didn't embrace Phoebe's style and tried to get out of running with her friend.  I love how Rachel eventually overcame her embarrassment and ran like Phoebe did and loved it.

I have always admired and identified with the character of Phoebe. She has overcome a difficult and painful childhood, doesn't take any guff from anyone and beats to her own drum. She knows she is not like the others and really doesn't care. She is happy just being herself. I hope that someday I can be a little bit like her.

A thought occurred to me later that week after watching that episode. I have been running life the same way Phoebe runs in that episode. So far my life has been awkward, random and sometimes a bit messy but I haven't had her carefree attitude. I have been way to hard on myself and  have expected perfection way too many times in my life. Now that I am older, I strive to be more carefree and love the me God created me to be.

I can't be the only one on the planet who feels this way. I'd love it if you'd join me and start Running Like Phoebe through life!
